HISTORY & EXPERIENCE

National Agencies was founded in the year 1965 as a sole proprietorship clearing and forwarding (C&F) organisation. Specialising in customs clearing and forwarding, the firm’s first contract was with the East Pakistan Agricultural Development Corporation in 1965. During the period of the contract which lasted for three years from 1965 to 1968, the firm was appointed as the sole agent of the E.P.A.D.C. to clear and transport all fertilisers that came into the country via Mongla Port. During the same period, the firm also transported 7,000 tons of fertiliser from the Ghorashal fertiliser factory and transported it to Barisal and various other locations within Bangladesh.

National Agencies continues to develop and serve a growing number of local well reputed and multinational companies for their integrated logistics needs and the rest as they say is history.

Since then, National Agencies has evolved into a much more complex organisation. In 1977, soon after the liberation war in Bangladesh (previously East Pakistan), the firm began a rapid transformation process. Focus was shifted to large foreign multi-national companies that came to Bangladesh to set up their establishments and execute project work and were in need of Clearing and Forwarding services in a grand scale. To meet this objective, the firm also decided to focus on fast and reliable service, providing regular feedback and real time information to clients on the status of shipments. In a country where the infrastructure and reliability of any service sector business is dubious, the concentration on service paid off in the form of the firm’s first project contract with Toyo Menka Kaisha Ltd. (now TOMEN Corporation) in 1979, to work on the 132 KV Bheramara-Faridpur-Madaripur-Barisal Transmission Line Project of the Bangladesh Power Development Board.

Our staff are extensively trained in import and export regulatory compliance in a project environment, and the handling of hazardous materials in shipments. We work in a very hands-on environment with our clients’ construction teams. NA personnel often work at the job site, as well as on ships, at the port, overseeing heavy-lifts, cargo lashing, and other cargo handling. Full-time safety supervisors ensure that all onsite work is carried out in a safe manner, in full compliance with our clients’ as well as local and international regulations.
